Observation // Diversity in Target

As I walked through Target buying the necessities for the indefinite quarantine, I could not help but notice the people around me. Everyone had a different story. Some seemed anxious about the days ahead, while others treated the day like a normal occurrence. Some were running around trying to control their rambunctious children, while others were scrambling to buy the last package of toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
Every shopper’s demeanor was different, but that is not all. They all had different physical characteristics as well-- Differing hair colors, eye colors, skin colors. It does not get much more diverse than a Target in Columbus, Ohio. I have grown up in Columbus my entire life. I have walked those aisles millions of times, yet today, I noticed the diversity more than I ever had before.
This formative experience really showcased God as a designer—THE Designer. He took the time to create each and every one of us uniquely. He could have easily made us all the exact same, but He loved enough to individually mold each of us. We all contribute to the overall beauty of the world. We all look different, act different, and think different, yet we all resemble Him in many ways.
That is the beauty of diversity. It should be celebrated, not seen as a downfall. Without diversity, our world would lack creativity. If everything were designed the same way, there would be no room for ingenuity. Our lives would be a bore. Think about this before you judge others. Think about how their differences enhance our world.
